Today, on May 06, 2024, an article written by partner Gustavo Flausino Coelho and lawyer Fernando Naegele about the current challenges in regulating sporting bets in Brazil was published on the website Jota – a Brazilian electronic newsletter specialized in legal topics.
The article aims to highlight some of the main points of Law no. 14,790/2023 and its provisions for regulating sporting bets. It also seeks to debate possible gaps in the regulation, particularly the absence of prohibition of the participation of spouses and relatives of partners or shareholders of betting houses as directors of Football Corporations – SAFs and sports entities and the lack of provisions on re-bet prizes, to avoid the chance of their forfeiture in favor of the Federal Union, offering some possible strategies to address these gaps.
