The Brazilian National Data Protection Authority (“ANPD” or “Brazilian DPA”) recently issued a Report stating that its General Coordination of Technology and Research (Coordenação-Geral de Tecnologia e Pesquisa – CGTP) is conducting a study to evaluate if Meta’s recently launched social network Threads complies with the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (“LGPD”).
The assessment is part of the Brazilian DPA’s monitoring activities, as provided by the LGPD, and is grounded on concerns regarding possible violations in the personal data processing carried out by the social network, according to issues raised by representatives of the Brazilian civil society and by other jurisdictions’ Data Protection Authorities.
Depending on the study’s results, the CGTP may recommend the starting of a sanctioning administrative procedure against META for possible LGPD violation by Threads.
Our team is at your disposal for further clarifications, as well as to provide assistance with the procedures for fulfilling LGPD and/or ANPD regulatory obligations.
