Private equity and venture capital in Latin America in the aftermath of the pandemic – the new wave?

The paper “Private equity and venture capital in Latin America in the aftermath of the pandemic – the new wave?“, authored by partner Gustavo Flausino Coelho, was published by the Closely Held Companies Committee of the International Bar Association (“IBA”).

The paper reports the main themes debated in the joint session of the Latin-American Regional Forum and the Closely Held Companies Committee at the IBA Miami 2022 Annual Conference.

The session brought important reflections on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the positive legacy for private equity and venture capital, such as: (i) the record number of Initial Public Offerings (IPOs); (ii) the boom of SPACs; (iii) increase in M&A transactions; (iv) maturity of ESG practices; and (v) investments in technology and cybersecurity.

The IBA’s Closely Held Companies Committee mission is to address issues of particular interest to start ups, owner-managed, closely held and family businesses and their legal advisors, and to organisations with ambitions for growth. The committee’s aim is to provide a focus for the different needs of ownership, management and financing of such organisations.
