Our partner Gustavo Flausino Coelho has been reelected as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Young Lawyers (“AIJA”) for a three (3) year term.
The election was held during AIJA’s General Assembly, at AIJA’s 60th Annual Congress which took place in August 22-27 at the Marina Bay Hotel in Singapore.
AIJA’s Executive Committee consists of forty-eight (48) AIJA members elected by the General Assembly and serving a term of three (3) years. Elections to replace part of the Executive Committee are held at each Annual Congress, as the term of 1/3 of the Executive Committee body expires each year. Therefore, the sixteen (16) most voted candidates at the General Assembly are elected to the Executive Committee.
The primary function of the Executive Committee is to assist the Bureau in its management of AIJA by taking an active role in promoting AIJA’s objectives and the Strategic Plan. In addition, the Executive Committee is also responsible for approving applications for membership in AIJA and, on the recommendation of the Bureau, making decisions on other matters as provided for in the Statutes, such as the appointment of National Representatives.
With 239 (two hundred and thirty-nine) votes, Gustavo Flausino Coelho was elected in tenth place and is part of a select list of Brazilian members who have occupied the position in AIJA’s Executive Committee.
