AIJA Half-Year May Conference

Between May 23 and 27, partner Gustavo Flausino Coelho will participate in the Half-Year May Conference, an event organized by the International Association of Young Lawyers – AIJA, in The Hague, Netherlands.

The central theme of the conference is the relationship between human rights and the growing importance of ESG in international law (and business). The event was divided into three academic tracks: (A) The Hague Conventions: Practical Impacts to Every-Day Work of International Lawyers in 2023; (B) Arbitration, Litigation & Human Rights: taking Action Today to Protect Tomorrow; and (C) The Impact of ESG on International Business and Legal Practice, as a follow-up to the discussions held during the Half-Year November Conference in 2022.

Gustavo will participate in the panel on May 25, at 10:10 am, on the following topic “Do we need an apostille? Recognising documents in foreign countries” coordinated by the International Business Law Commission. The panel will address the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (the Apostille Convention) from the perspective of international lawyers’ practice.

The panel will be moderated by Bartosz Kuraś (Wardynski & Partners, Poland) and will feature panelists Monika Křižánková (PRK Partners, Czech Republic),   Eirik Børstein (Advokatfirmaet Haavind AS, Norway), Matilda Sjölin (NORMA Advokater HB, Sweden) e René Mauricio Alva (EC Rubio, Mexico) e Caio Gomes De Freitas (Legal Officer, Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), Netherlands).

Each year AIJA offers over twenty (20) events and initiatives dedicated to international young lawyers, and organized by AIJA members through the various Commissions and Committees, whether online, in-person or in a hybrid format.
